Thank You Chudleigh

Lights 3  Lights 3  Lights 3  Lights 3  Lights 3  Lights 3  Lights 3

Last Thursday evening, the weather was as perfect as we could expect for December, and hundreds of you came out on the street to kick off Chudleigh’s Christmas season. The parade went off without incident and the lights went on at the right time, more or less; Father Christmas was visited by lots of children; the live entertainment was great, despite the slight geographical confusion over the drummers; and there were no serious mishaps, although one little girl did attempt to fly in the Town Hall – we hope the bruises are getting better, Chloe!

So it was another successful Christmas Fayre, and the Chudfest Christmas Fayre committee would like to thank some special people for helping to make it happen:

  • Chudleigh Town Council for sharing the cost of the Christmas lights;

  • The businesses and individuals in Fore Street who donate the electricity to power the lights;

  • Chudleigh Business Guild, Chudleigh Carnival and the Rotary Club of Chudleigh and Bovey Tracey for generous donations to the Christmas Lights Fund;

  • Kingsteignton Veterinary Group for hosting Father Christmas;

  • Father Christmas and his elves for finding time to visit Chudleigh at such a busy time of the year;

  • Jenny and Richard Turner for the use of their garden and their electricity to set up the stage area;

  • Gina Sherwood and Lisa Smith for organising the entertainment; and all the performers;

  • Chudleigh Primary School and Chudleigh Church for carols and drumming;

  • The brave men and women who wrapped up warmly and acted as marshals for the road closure;

  • The team, including the Guides, who kept the one-way system moving within the Town Hall;

  • The retailers of the town who opened their doors for late night shopping;

  • The crafters and other stall holders who helped give a buzz to the town on the night;

  • The church bell ringers who heralded the beginning of the parade and the hand bell ringers who kept us entertained in the Woodway Room all evening;

  • St John Ambulance and the Neighbourhood Police Team who looked after our safety;

  • and last, but certainly not least: John Carlton and the Town Hall staff for their tremendous support not just on the night but throughout the year.

And a huge thank you to everyone who came out and joined in the fun. Same time, next year?

[Tomorrow, we will bring you the results of the Christmas Window competition and the Pound-a-Pop draw.]
