Take a break from shopping and relax with food and entertainment. We have something for everyone this year.
The bells will be ringing at our fantastic church just before the children’s parade is launched by Judy Spiers at 6 pm. As the the children, accompanied by Santa, Rudolf and Carnival Royalty, move towards the Square, the Christmas lights will be turned on. Traditional carols will be sung at the church and again at the Square. If bells are your thing, there will be hand-bell ringing in the Woodway Room.
Outdoor singing and dancing will be outside Alpha House. At the library you will be able to hear the Shanty Men singing and selected Christmas readings. Just next door, at the Youth Centre, you can meet Santa!
As you move between the Town Hall and the Library and Youth Centre look out for Chudleigh’s award-winning carnival float.
Around town Steve will have his barrel organs (if you ask nicely he may let you have a go).
To keep you informed the Borough Crier will be out and about; there will also be an information point at the Town Hall.
As a break from shopping make the most of the variety of food available at the Christmas Fayre. Try out our local places to eat and drink: Bishop Lacy, Chudleigh Chippy, Harvey’s, Mei Wah, Old Pottery Court Café, Rominoss Pizza, Sangers, The Globe, The Phoenix, and The Ship Inn.
For one night only you will be able to get mulled cider (Twinning Association, Town Hall forecourt), Coffee and mince pies (Women’s Institute, Rest Centre), doughnuts and candyfloss (Town Hall forecourt), Spanish snacks, and coffee and crepes.
At the Christmas Fayre on Thursday 3rd December there will be many opportunties to buy those difficult-to-get Christmas gifts. Many retailers will be open, including: Angie Holmes; Bracken Gallery; Chudleigh DIY; Chudleigh Laundrette; Co-operative Food; Cutting Room; Dandelion; Fido Sassoon; Forever Tattoo; Furniture Barn (offering mulled wine); Gillett’s SPAR; Gill’s; Lloyds Pharmacy; Paradise; Passion Boutique; Pet’s Corner (with gift bags for dogs and cats); Post Office; Sawdye & Harris (offering a children’s col-ouring competition); Second Hand Store; and Sugar Mill.
There will be a craft market upstairs at the Town Hall in the Large Room. Two indoor Christmas Markets will be available, one in the Woodway Room and one at the Youth Centre.
On the street and on the Town Hall forecourt there will be stalls selling a variety of items.
Food and Drink will be available at many venues, including: Bishop Lacy; Chudleigh Chippy, Harvey’s Coffee Shop and Delicatessen (turkey or pork rolls; mulled wine); Mei Wah Chinese Take-Away; Old Pottery Court Café; Rominoss Pizza; Sangers; The Globe; The Phoenix; and The Ship Inn.

All this and entertainment too! So why not do your Christmas shopping and help the community at the same time by buying local .
We had a magnificent response to our fundraising activities last month. With the proceeds from the variety Concert and Tank Sherman’s sale of pre-decimal currency, we raised £1000 for the Christmas Lights fund. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed in any way.
And now, time is rushing by. The brochure is at the printers, the entertainers are rehearsing, the retailers and market traders are preparing their stock – and Father Christmas is curling his beard. The Chudleigh Christmas Fayre is less than a month away. Make a note of the date in your diary and we will see you in the Town Centre from 5pm onwards on Thursday 3rd December.
